Many fruits are high in acidity. Lemons, grapefruit, strawberries, grapes, and apples are highly acidic. Soda or pop also contains high levels of acidity as well as copious amounts of sugar. This combination, sugar and acid, is like pushing the gas pedal toward tooth decay.
If you are drinking fruit juice or soda, consider using a straw. In addition, choose other fruits if you already have sensitive teeth. Avoid sugary foods as well. If you are not sure what foods are considered acidic, you can look up the pH value of the food. Foods with low pH values, between one and three, are highly acidic and may damage your enamel.
Knowing what foods to eat to avoid damage to your teeth is important knowledge. It is also important to have a healthy oral hygiene routine. Brush your teeth twice a day for two minutes each session. Floss your teeth before you go to bed. With these preventative measures, your teeth have a better chance of staying strong and fighting tooth decay.
