Inlays and Onlays in Redmond, OR

Sometimes a tooth needs more support than a filling can provide, but it doesn’t need a full crown. That’s where dental inlays and onlays can come in. At Select Dental Care, we use these custom restorations to repair damaged teeth while preserving as much of your healthy natural tooth as possible.

We take a thoughtful approach to restorative dentistry. We look at the condition of your tooth, listen to your concerns, and explain your options so you can feel confident about your treatment, not confused by dental jargon.

What Are Inlays and Onlays?

An inlay restores damage within the chewing surface of a tooth. It fits into the space between the tooth’s natural cusps and provides support where a traditional filling may not be enough.

An onlay covers a larger area and extends over one or more cusps. We may recommend an onlay when damage affects more of the tooth but doesn’t require a full dental crown. Both restorations are custom-made to fit your tooth and bite. We choose the option that provides the right balance of support, function, and preservation for your individual needs.

What Are the Benefits of Inlays and Onlays?

Inlays and onlays give us another way to restore a damaged tooth without automatically moving to a full crown. When they’re appropriate, they offer several advantages.
Preserve More of Your Natural Tooth
We always want to preserve healthy tooth structure whenever we can. Our custom-made inlays and onlays in Redmond, OR, allow us to focus on the damaged area while keeping more of your natural tooth intact.
Restore Strength and Function
A damaged tooth can make biting and chewing uncomfortable. An inlay or onlay reinforces the affected area and restores the tooth’s shape and function, helping you get back to enjoying your normal routine.
Create a Natural-Looking Restoration
We design your restoration to fit comfortably with your surrounding teeth. Depending on your treatment, we can use tooth-colored materials to create a discreet result that blends naturally with your smile.

Frequently Asked Questions

A dental inlay or onlay repairs and strengthens a tooth when a traditional filling cannot provide enough support, but the tooth still has enough healthy structure to avoid a full crown. These custom restorations allow us to preserve as much of your natural tooth as possible while restoring its function and appearance.

With CEREC technology, we can digitally design and create certain inlays and onlays in our Redmond dental office, offering a precise, comfortable restoration without the need for traditional impressions.

How Are Inlays and Onlays Different?

  • Inlay — An inlay repairs damage within the chewing surface of a tooth, fitting between the tooth’s natural cusps.
  • Onlay — An onlay covers a larger area and extends over one or more cusps. We may recommend an onlay when damage extends beyond the center of the tooth but does not require a full crown.

Is an Inlay or Onlay Right for You?

We examine your tooth, assess the extent of the damage, and discuss your treatment options before recommending a restoration. We consider your bite, oral health, and the location and condition of the tooth to determine which option best meets your needs.

CEREC Inlays and Onlays

We also use CEREC technology to digitally design and create certain inlays and onlays in our Redmond dental office. Digital scanning often eliminates the need for traditional impression materials and provides a detailed view of your tooth.

For eligible restorations, CEREC can also streamline treatment by allowing us to create your restoration on site rather than sending it to an outside laboratory.

What Can I Expect During Treatment?

We start by examining your tooth and assessing the extent of the damage. We may use digital imaging or scanning to help us plan your restoration.

Once we determine that an inlay or onlay is appropriate, we prepare the affected tooth and capture the information needed to create your custom restoration. We then check the fit, appearance, and bite before securely bonding it into place.

We explain what we’re doing throughout the appointment and make sure you have the opportunity to ask questions.

Testimonial

"The place was very modern, clean and comfortable."

It was my 1st time there after having not been to a dentist for a long time. The place was very modern, clean and comfortable. Everyone was very friendly, helpful and professional. Kudos to Debby for her extreme friendliness and understanding and for taking the time to explain things to me and ease my nervousness and for her gentleness and consideration when working on me.
